In a move likely designed to appeal to younger first-time homebuyers, Shaun Donovan, current head of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), took to viral news site BuzzFeed to tout the benefits of homeownership this week.
Donovan’s post is laden with BuzzFeed’s characteristic GIFs (short, repeating video clips) and is titled “10 Reasons Why Homeownership Never Goes Out of Style.” He highlights homeownership’s financial benefits — fixed monthly payments, tax incentives, equity-building — as well as quality-of-life benefits, such as a yard, the ability to play loud music in the wee hours of the morning, and the freedom to decorate walls at will.
In May, President Obama tapped Donovan to head up the White House budget office and nominated San Antonio’s Democratic mayor, Julian Castro, to replace him.
