Overnight real estate rates head higher

30-year fixed rate up at 5.39%; 10-year Treasury up at 4.29%

Long-term mortgage interest rates continued to rise Monday, and the benchmark 10-year Treasury bond yield edged up to 4.29 percent. The 30-year fixed-rate average increased to 5.39 percent, and the 15-year fixed-rate gained to 4.96 percent. The 1-year adjustable was up at 3.98 percent. The 30-year Treasury bond yield rose to 4.59 percent. Rates are current as of 7:15 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Mortgage rate figures are according to Bankrate.com, which publishes nightly averages based on its survey of 4,000 banks in 50 states. Points on these mortgages range from zero to 3.5. In other economic news, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 24.04 points, or 0.23 percent, finishing at 10,443.63. The Nasdaq gained 4.62 points, or 0.22 percent, closing at 2,121.46.
