Real estate marketing in the digital age

Future-Proof: Navigate Threats, Seize Opportunities at ICNY 2018 | Jan 22-26 at the Marriott Marquis, Times Square, New York

There is a phenomenon in business where we inherit the strategies and tactics of those who surround us. In most cases, we do so without giving any thought to the practices we adopt.

We see this all the time in real estate … especially when it comes to marketing.

Learn how to market real estate in the digital age with a free Select Audio Live webinar on July 14 at 9 a.m. PDT/12 p.m. EDT.

Agents and brokers keep using tired tactics that no longer produce results. Here’s a prime example: Despite the fact that only 1 percent of homebuyers found their home in print newspapers, real estate agents spent $1.5 billion to market in newspapers last year.

4 tips to raise your real estate business’s online profile
As a real estate professional, you know how important it is to get your name in front of prospective clients. With the modern digital world increasingly mobile, the opportunity to create real impact and grow your business is yours for the taking ... READ MORE

These strategies were suitable for a time … but that time was before the consumer had access to housing data on the Internet.

Before listing data was on the Internet, real estate agents could wait for the consumer to contact them because customers had to reach out to agents in order to get what they needed. The information wasn’t available through any other means. Consumers would ask the agent for information about a potential home to purchase or about selling their home, an opportunity that the agent would then turn into an appointment.

Most agents are still marketing like this. They’re waiting for the phone to ring … waiting for someone to walk in the office … waiting for an email to arrive in their inbox so they can react to the opportunity.

In today’s digital age, we can no longer be reactive. It’s crucial for every real estate professional to proactively market by meeting the consumers where they are … which is no longer lining up outside your door.

The good news is that with almost 100 percent of homebuyers using the Internet during their home search, it’s easy to know where they’ve gone — online.
