eXp Realty has reached a settlement in agent Anya Roberts’ lawsuit, resolving her claims against the brokerage and founder Glenn Sanford tied to her alleged drugging and sexual assault by two former eXp agents.
A notice of settlement was filed Sunday in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, HousingWire reported. The confidential settlement covers eXp Realty, AGNT, formerly eXp World Holdings, and Sanford.
Former eXp agents David Golden and Michael Bjorkman, who have denied the allegations, are scheduled to go on trial Monday in Los Angeles.
“eXp has consistently denied any claims brought against eXp, and the resolution is not an admission of wrongdoing,” an eXp spokesperson said in a statement to Inman. The spokesperson said Roberts has remained an eXp agent throughout the case and expects to stay affiliated with the brokerage. The terms of the resolution are confidential, according to the statement.
Case background
Roberts filed her lawsuit in December 2023, alleging Golden and Bjorkman drugged and sexually assaulted her at eXp recruiting events in February and March 2020. She also claimed eXp Realty and Sanford knowingly benefited from the former agents’ alleged sex trafficking. The suit followed a similar case, known as Acevedo, filed by four women and later amended to name the same agents, eXp and Sanford.
Two trials, one settlement
In August, Judge André Birotte Jr. split Roberts’ case into two jury trials. The trial beginning today will hear Roberts’ allegations of sexual battery, civil battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress against Golden and Bjorkman, tied to events on or about March 10-13, 2020, in Florida.
A second trial against eXp Realty and Sanford was set to begin Nov. 16. In an Aug. 20 order, Birotte released AGNT from all of Roberts’ claims and granted Sanford summary judgment on vicarious liability and negligent hiring, supervision and retention. That left Sanford and eXp Realty facing beneficiary liability claims under the federal Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act, with eXp Realty also facing vicarious liability and negligent hiring, supervision and retention claims. The settlement resolves those claims.
Related litigation
Roberts settled with Brent Gove, the eXp team leader who hosted the recruiting events, in January 2026, according to HousingWire.
Sanford stepped down as AGNT CEO earlier this month and remains chairman of the company’s board. The Acevedo case, in which eXp Realty, AGNT and Sanford are also defendants, remains pending in the same court.
