When we published the Inman × Lone Wolf 2026 Broker/Owner Survey findings, one thing became clear: brokers know what retention costs. They just didn’t have a strategy in place to prevent it.
Seventy-four percent of those polled said retention matters more than recruiting. Yet only 15 percent felt confident catching a flight risk in time. And one-third had lost an agent unexpectedly in the past 12 months.
That data wasn’t just a problem to document. It was a blueprint for what we needed to build.
Talent in BrokerMetrics is now live.
It’s the retention system brokers told us they needed, with AI-powered flight-risk detection built directly into the platform they already use every day. No new login. No new spreadsheet. Just early warning signs surfaced from your own production and engagement data, so you can act while there’s still time.
The three numbers that shaped what we built
30 percent
One-third of brokers lost an agent unexpectedly last year. The survey showed why: 44 percent of brokers keep no formal at-risk tracking list. Another 26 percent get little to no warning before an agent leaves. When you’re monitoring retention on gut instinct and relationship alone, you’re betting your brokerage on your personal bandwidth. That bet fails roughly one-third of the time.
Talent changes that. It surfaces behavioral and production signals that precede a resignation, automated, weekly, no digging required. Volume drops. Competitor co-op spikes. Listing pipeline slowing. You see it before the resignation letter does.
$18,036
That’s the average total cost of losing one productive agent. Add in the 200 days it takes a replacement to reach full productivity, more than half a year of recovery time, and a single unexpected departure shadows your production numbers for two-thirds of a year.
For franchise brokers, the math is catastrophic: turnover costs an estimated 10 percent of annual revenue, versus 4.9 percent for independents. That’s not a people problem. That’s a P&L line.
One retention save on a top-10-percent producer pays for the system for years. Talent helps you catch those agents before they become statistics.
2 percent
Despite rating retention as the priority, only 2 percent of brokers name it as their top growth strategy for the year ahead.
That’s the disconnect the survey exposed. Brokers see the problem. They understand the cost. But the tools and systems to prevent departures haven’t caught up to the priority. So retention stays reactive instead of proactive.
Until now.
What Talent does
Leveraging Lone Wolf’s AI teammate Aspen, Talent in BrokerMetrics has six AI-powered skills across the full retention and recruiting cycle:
- Track: Run your whole pipeline from one place, every touch tracked as you go
- Retain: Catch the signal before the resignation, so you keep your best producers
- Recruit: Rank agents by tier, so outreach goes to the right candidates, not the loudest ones
- Pitch: Aspen AI drafts personalized outreach grounded in each agent’s live volume, side count, and days on market
- Profitability: Understand each agent’s potential bottom-line impact based on your brokerage’s compensation plans and costs.
- Map Search: Select any area and see every productive agent inside it, ranked by production
Why brokers are moving first
The survey revealed something else that shaped Talent’s design: the brokers who feel most in control of retention have replaced hunches with a repeatable process. Logged, reviewed and applied consistently.
Sixty-six percent of brokers believe AI could help them spot flight risk before it’s too late. Yet only 19 percent were actually using it for that purpose. Market analysis and CRM automation see AI adoption above 40 percent. Retention-specific AI sat dead last.
The tools were there. Brokers just needed them redirected.
Talent redirects them. And the brokers moving first aren’t just stopping the bleeding. They’re building stronger teams, creating a reputation agents want to be part of and putting themselves in a better position to attract new talent. Retention becomes a competitive advantage instead of a defensive scramble.
