SecondSpace reports layoffs in failed partnership

SecondSpace, a company that launched in 2006 that targets the second-home market, has laid off eight of its 54 employees because of a dissolved partnership deal, according to a report at John Cook’s Venture blog.

"SecondSpace had a business partnership in place with an undisclosed company," according to a company statement published at the blog site, and the company had a revenue-sharing agreement with this partner. This partner was not named.

"The partner pulled out of the deal due to strategic shifts in its business, so we have redeployed some of the team members affected while working with others to transition out of the company over the next few weeks." The company also reported that its core business in working with real estate brokers, agents and developers internationally remains extremely healthy."

Roost gets bigger perch

Roost, a real estate search site that offers multiple listing service-based property information through partnerships with local MLSs and local brokers, announced today that it has expanded to the Denver area.

The Roost.com search site now offers about 1.5 million listings for about 11,000 cities. Roost reported last week that it expanded coverage to Florida through MLS partnerships in greater Orlando, Miami and Tampa Bay, and in April the company announced that it expanded its coverage to the Phoenix area.

HomeGain opens ‘Blogging School’

HomeGain has hired Joseph Ferrara of the Sellsius Real Estate blog to offer weekly blogging tips to real estate agents who subscribe to the company’s Source4Sellers marketing tools.

The company has dubbed Ferrara the "Blog Professor" for the "HomeGain Blogging School." The company launched a blog network for its agent customers in April.
