New York City’s attempts to create a bicycle sharing system are proving that the NIMBY (“not in my backyard”) mentality need not be confined to public housing developments and municipal garbage incinerators. Who wants a pesky bike rack right in front of their Greenwich Village co-op, right?
The New York City Department of Transportation is the defendant in at least three lawsuits over the placement of Bike Share racks, and six more are in the works, the New York Post reports. Residents of The Cambridge, 175 W. 13th St., claim the city installed a 39-bike rack “under the cover of darkness” at 2:30 a.m. April 22. Source: nypost.com.
