Looming over a Pacific Ocean-bound stretch of Los Angeles’ Sunset Boulevard is a home that has the aura of “the lair of a Bond villain or aging Hollywood producer-turned-recluse,” The New York Times reports.

The home’s precarious placement and unique architecture have rendered it a local landmark. But its builder (and resident) remains largely anonymous.
