Scam artists are using websites like HomeAway.com and Vacation Rentals By Owner (vrbo.com) to take advantage of time-share owners in Palm Springs and other resort communities, The Desert Sun reports.
This month the Federal Trade Commission announced 191 enforcement actions taken by authorities in more than two dozen states and 11 countries targeting fraudulent time-share resale scams. Con artists typically persuade time-share owners who are desperate to sell to pay upfront fees to connect them with buyers, the FTC said.
