Growing demand and low inventory have prompted a significantly larger share of agents to withhold listings from multiple listing services (MLS) than in years past.

The strategy has become so common that more than 30 percent of listings are being withheld from the MLS in some metropolitan areas, a real estate consultant told The Buffalo News.

“That friendly pocket listing has now become an epidemic,” the consultant said.
