A San Antonio, Texas, man who paid straw buyers kickbacks as part of a mortgage fraud scheme involving more than $50 million in loans has been sentenced to 11 years in prison. An attorney for Robert Brooks, 45, said banks were to blame for not doing due diligence on loan paperwork, the San Antonio Express-News reports. Brooks was the main target of an investigation that led to charges against more than 20 defendants, seven of whom are set to be tried later this year. Source: mysanantonio.com.
