Chicago-based residential brokerage @properties says that when it moved into the southwest Michigan market last year, its intention was primarily to serve the second-home market — Lake Michigan is an easily accessible summer vacation getaway for the city’s residents. But the brokerage quickly found it could establish relationships with local buyers and sellers, prompting it to open a second regional office in Michigan.

The company — which claims to be the biggest independent residential brokerage in Illinois — now operates offices in St. Joseph and New Buffalo, Mich., and is “looking forward to bringing our local brand to many more communities in southwest Michigan and northwest Indiana and building more market share,” co-founder Thaddeus Wong said in announcing the opening of the new St. Joseph office.
