The top 40 Airbnb hosts in New York grossed at least $400,000 over the past three years, or $35 million all told, the New York Times reports, citing data from the state attorney general’s office, which is out to crack down on what it characterizes as operators of illegal hotels and tax scofflaws.

“It’s important to remember that almost 90 percent of our hosts have only one listing and it’s the home they live in,” an Airbnb spokesman told the Times. Source: nytimes.com
