A herd of goats at the center of a zoning dispute in Agawam, Mass., is being kept at two undisclosed locations in order to prevent the city from confiscating them.
An elderly disabled couple, Alan Griffin and his wife, Suzanne, have been battling the city for seven years to keep the goats, whose milk Griffin says his wife needs due to a medical condition. The city claims the goats violated the city’s zoning laws and a court order authorized the city to take the goats unless they were removed by Oct. 27.
After hearing about the situation, a group of supporters from around the region came to the couple’s home earlier this week and transported the animals in an operation dubbed the “Agawam Goat Confiscation Reception Party.”
