• LulaFit is a concierge fitness, nutrition and health service that has professionals visit homes and offices directly.
  • LulaFit is working with Realtors to offer discounted services as closing gifts for Chicago homebuyers.
  • The service is intended to take some stress of a new homebuyer and make them feel comfortable in their new space.

Do you ever feel caught in a rut with creative ways to gift your Chicago homebuyers after closing? A closing gift isn’t just something to say thanks for choosing you as a Realtor, it’s also a way to stay connected after signing on the dotted line.

After the hectic moving day, months of planning, handfuls of showings and piles of paperwork, a new homebuyer hardly has the energy to worry about getting to a gym, let alone planning a fitness regimen or nutritional plan. Enter: Lulafit.

Gaining traction as a concierge fitness service in the Chicago city limits, LulaFit is also becoming a resource for area Realtors.

Founder Colleen Shaughnessy’s love for fitness started in contemporary ballet, and it spurred into a blog called Fearlessly Fit Life, which she started about two years ago. After seeking to reach a broader audience, Shaughnessy began teaching in offices, homes and residential buildings — and, thus, LulaFit was born.

Lula meaning simple, because Shaughnessy wanted to make fitness and nutrition easy.

For her that meant bringing a healthy lifestyle to people in the comfort of their home. And that also meant customizing each individual client’s specific needs. The connect to real estate began to come together fairly organically.

“It was the brainchild of a Realtor friend and mine. We realized we had similar clientele in the city. We worked with a similar type of person so we were looking to working together more,” she said. “We both specialize in working in people’s homes, their personal spaces. Instead of them stressing out about finding a gym, we bring it to them.”

The LulaFit team includes personal trainers, massage therapists, nutritionists and wellness coaches — all of whom collaborate to customize an in-home experience.

“Every time we have a team member go into a home, that person is reminded of the Realtor who bought the package for them,” she said.

Taking the stress out of moving day

LulaFit is working with Chicago Realtors who want to give their recent homebuyers a little bit of stress relief. Packages often include a personal training session, nutritional counseling session and/or a massage therapy session.

So far the gifts have been well-received, Shaughnessy says. She worried that offering a personal training session to a homebuyer could send the wrong message, but luckily that hasn’t happened yet.

Because Shaughnessy says working with Realtors benefits both sides of the partnership, LulaFit offers Realtors a discount to closing gift packages. While the discount varies, the standard cost for sessions runs pretty similar to a typical fitness class in the city: $25 for one class, $110 for five and $200 for 10.

LulaFit is growing and bringing health and fitness not only to people’s homes, but the company is now working with local brokerages and offering services to their agents.

“There are not a lot of people who are going to come to your house at 4 a.m. to train you,” she said. “Every single thing that we do is customized for our client, just like the way Realtors work with buyers.”
