Chris Nielsen has joined brokerage Redfin as chief financial officer, Redfin announced today.

Nielsen’s experience as chief operating officer at, a popular retail site specializing in shoes and known for its customer service, will help Redfin as it continues to expand, the company said.

“He’s a believer and a doer, ridiculously smart but soulful too. We’re over the moon to have him on board,” said Redfin CEO Glenn Kelman in a statement.

Redfin, which invests heavily in technology, has expanded rapidly in 2013, opening offices in five major markets. So far this year, the company has set up operations in California’s Inland Empire region; Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach in South Florida; Houston, Texas; New York City’s Bronx borough; and Raleigh and Charlotte in North Carolina.

“I’ve always enjoyed companies that put customers first, and combine technology and service to make something better. That is what Redfin is doing,” Nielsen said in a statement. “I’m excited to join this talented and passionate team on its mission to reinvent real estate for consumers.”
