It’s no secret: If you want your business to reach people online, then marketing on Facebook isn’t an option — it’s a requirement. With 1 out of every 2 people on the Internet logging into Facebook each month, chances are the people you want to reach are actively engaged on Facebook.

The question is: How do you use Facebook to connect with your audience in a way that promotes and grows your business?

Learn how to make the most of Facebook marketing with a free Inman Select Live Audio webinar on July 28 at 9 a.m. PDT/12 p.m. EDT.

Facebook has evolved dramatically over the last couple years, and with that evolution, the strategies and tactics for businesses trying to reach their audiences have completely changed. It’s funny to say this, but there is an “old way” and a “new way” for businesses to use Facebook.

In the old way, businesses used Facebook as means to connect with their audience online as a social networking tool. In the new way, Facebook is a rich media delivery and advanced advertising platform, and businesses can leverage the new platform to provide specific audiences with targeted offers and content.

On a recent Inman Select Audio Live session, Garry Wise and Chris Scott from GoodLife Realty discussed why the “old ways” of using Facebook are fast becoming obsolete, and shared the new ways they’re using Facebook to connect with their audience online:

Old way
New way
Focus on sharing content on business page to engage and attract audience Focus on sharing content on your business page to impress and affirm your reputation
Focus on relevant content that would get delivered to fan news feeds Focus on specific audiences on Facebook to deliver relevant content
Focus on creating a surplus of content for posting multiple times a day Focus on creating meaningful content for posting multiple times a week
Focus on reach, likes and shares (people who engage your post content), Focus on clicks, conversion and actions (people who act on your post content)
Free promotion to fans of your business page Paid advertising to customers (future and current)

Learning to use Facebook the “new way”

When learning any new platform, it’s hard to know what works, what doesn’t, what features you should use, how you should use the platform for your specific business needs, and so on.

During the Inman Select Audio Live session, questions flooded in. Some of the most common questions included:

  • When should I use the Boost Post feature in Facebook?
  • Should I promote listings on Facebook and how?
  • How do I build an audience of fans on Facebook?
  • What kind of budget should I spend on Facebook advertising?
  • How can I use Facebook to promote my brand?

To help, we’re hosting a live encore presentation of the Inman Select Audio Live session “Forget What You Know About Facebook.”
