Houston is the second largest metro in the state of Texas, growing 38.3 percent from 4.7 million people in 2000 to 6.5 million residents in 2014. These figures make Houston the nation’s second fastest growing metro. The area added more than 156,000 people in 2014, a jump that surpassed the prior four year’s growth combined.
