HomeSmart is adding nearly 2,000 agents across four Southeastern states through a merger with NorthGroup Real Estate, the brokerage announced Tuesday.
The deal grows HomeSmart’s network to more than 27,000 agents in more than 250 offices across 48 states, according to the company. NorthGroup will continue operating under its current structure, and its agents in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida will gain access to HomeSmart’s tools, services and national referral network, HomeSmart said. The announcement did not include financial terms.
Both brokerages operate on a 100 percent commission model and describe their approach as agent-first.
“NorthGroup has built an impressive business with a strong culture, talented agents and a model that aligns closely with HomeSmart,” HomeSmart founder and CEO Matt Widdows said in a statement. “This merger is an important part of our continued growth, and our priority is making sure NorthGroup agents continue to have the support they need to run their businesses successfully.”
NorthGroup founder, president and CEO Scott Wilkinson said agents should not expect changes to their day-to-day operations.
“For our agents, it’s business as usual,” Wilkinson said in a statement. “They can continue focusing on their clients and growing their businesses, now with the added strength and resources of HomeSmart behind them.”
HomeSmart said the merger is part of a strategy to expand its national scale through deals that fit its agent-first model and to build a base for growth in key markets. The Scottsdale, Arizona-based company launched in 2000 with a 100 percent commission, full-service model.
