CEOs lose confidence in economy

Chief executives across the United States are less confident about the state of the economy now than they were in the first quarter of this year, The Conference Board reported Thursday in its latest survey of CEOs.

The CEO Confidence Measure fell to 55 in the second quarter, after registering 62 in the first quarter of this year. A reading of more than 50 points reflects more positive than negative responses.  more...

Overnight real estate rates stuck in neutral

Long-term mortgage interest rates were flat Thursday, and the benchmark 10-year Treasury bond yield edged up to 4.18 percent.

The 30-year fixed-rate average remained at 5.26 percent, and the 15-year fixed-rate dipped slightly to 4.84 percent. The 1-year adjustable was unchanged at 3.73 percent.

The 30-year Treasury bond yield climbed to 4.41 percent.

Some real estate theft won't land you in jail

Investcorp acquires suburban Philly properties

Investcorp has acquired four office buildings and one industrial asset totaling 638,626 square feet located in separate suburban submarkets of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The total value of the transaction was not disclosed.

Electric utility developer lands space in Washington

CarrAmerica Realty Corp. has announced that AREVA T&D Inc. signed a 110,000-square-foot lease at Willow Creek Corporate Center in Redmond, Wash.

The value of the transaction was not disclosed.

This transaction brings occupancy at Willow Creek Corporate Center to 82 percent, according to a press statement.

Philadelphia-based AREVA T&D Inc.'s Redmond unit develops and delivers (electrical) energy management systems to the electric utility industry in North America.  more...

South Florida investor gains multifamily communities

Marcus & Millichap arranged the sale of the Wynnton Portfolio, a four-property apartment portfolio with locations in the Tampa, Fla., area.

The total value of the transaction was approximately $45.3 million.

'Passionate but polite' debate opens for RESPA reform

A "passionate but polite" discussion greeted the unveiling of the Department of Housing and Urban Development's proposed reforms of the mortgage settlement process at a roundtable meeting Thursday, a HUD spokesman said.

The event, held at the housing agency's Washington, D.C., headquarters, was the first in a series HUD has planned to collect input from consumers and industry professionals on how to simplify the home-buying process.

California attempts end run around eminent domain

Members of California's senate and assembly have introduced bills that would place a constitutional amendment on the ballot reducing the impact of the U.S. Supreme Court's recent decision on eminent domain.

California Senator Tom McClintock, R-Simi Valley, introduced bill SCA 15 and Assemblymember Doug LaMalfa, R-Richvale, introduced Assembly Constitutional Amendment 22, which mirrors SCA 15.  more...
