Located less than 30 miles from Downtown Austin, the suburb of Georgetown has transformed from a quiet community to a bustling attraction for buyers and renters within the Austin metro.

Filled with antiquity, the notable town center is complete with a century-old functioning courthouse, and the main street is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Nevertheless, Georgetown provides a small town atmosphere without losing sight of residents’ current interests. Bars, restaurants, shops and local wineries scatter the main stretch – commonly referred to as, “the Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas.”

About a third of Georgetown residents live in Sun City, a 5,000-acre community reserved for residents over the age of 50. Although the retirement factor plays a role in Georgetown’s overall resident profile, the area also attracts young professionals and families seeking a more low-key lifestyle.

Things to do in Georgetown

Aside from the Main Street historic district, Georgetown offers hiking trails, public parks and easy access to Lake Georgetown, a reservoir on the north fork of the San Gabriel River. The lake is prime for fishing, camping, boating and swimming during the warmer months.

The Inner Space Cavern, a karst cave, laid hidden for over 10,000 years until the construction of Interstate 35 led to its discovery. Today, visitors and residents in the Austin area can tour the prehistoric cave, or visit the nearby playground, mining area, gift shop and fossil displays.
