Connect the Speakers: Robert Reffkin on Compass' big bets for 2019

In conversation with Realogy CEO Ryan Schneider, Compass founder and CEO will share what he's learned over the past year

When it comes to making big bets on the future, Compass has been practicing its strategy since the company was founded, expanding from market to market and using its proprietary technology tools and investor backing to entice some of the best agents in the country to join the Compass brand. So who better to speak about big bets in 2019 than Compass CEO and co-founder Robert Reffkin?

Last year, Reffkin appeared at Inman Connect New York to share eight trends that he thought agents and brokers should expect in the next decade of operation. He’ll be taking the stage again at Inman Connect New York, January 29 through February 1 at the Marriott Marquis Times Square,in a spirited and inspiring discussing with Realogy CEO Ryan Schneider on everything they’ve learned over the past year, as well as some thoughts on what’s to come this year.

When he shared his vision for the future last year, Reffkin discussed the big trends that he believed would unfold throughout the next decade — so agents and brokers have until 2028 to incorporate this knowledge and understanding into their business. Reffkin’s eight top trends were:

  1. Brokerage firms will start hiring based off of culture, not production
  2. Agent teams will take a massive amount of market share from individuals
  3. Agent teams will replace the brokerage firm
  4. Real estate agents will be at the center of the referral economy
  5. There will be an aggressive shift from print marketing to digital
  6. Redfin will take massive market share from traditional agents
  7. Artificial intelligence will help agents make 10 times as much business
  8. Fairly priced healthcare would become a reality for real estate agents

And as Reffkin has mentioned before, one big goal is for Compass to take 20 percent market share in the top 20 markets by the year 2020. How will he accomplish this? By urging his agents to think like entrepreneurs — he shared another list of eight items with agents in 2018, this one outlining tenets that they should follow in order to achieve their dreams and become the best they can be.
