In a conversation at Inman Connect Las Vegas, team leaders DJ DellaSalla, of the DJ & Lindsey Team, and Justin Havre, of Justin Havre & Associates (RE/MAX), shared how they built profitable teams that continue to grow.

The key to building a profitable team? According to two successful team leaders, the key is putting your profits back into your business.

In a conversation at Inman Connect Las Vegas, team leaders DJ DellaSalla, of the DJ & Lindsey Team, and Justin Havre, of Justin Havre & Associates (RE/MAX), shared how they built profitable teams that continue to grow.

“You have to keep investing into the business to keep growing the business,” said DellaSalla, whose 25-person team will close upward of 440 units in 2019. “Sometimes profits will shrink because of that, but if you’re in it for the longterm, you’ll see that in years to come. You can’t be shortsighted.”

“It can be scary,” says Havre, who has grown his team from five agents in December 2012 to 32 (plus eight staff) today. They’ll close more than 1,000 units by the end of the year. But, he adds, “If you want to grow a business and scale it, you’ve got to be prepared to reinvest and take those risks.”

A good rule of thumb for any entrepreneur starting out is a piece of advice someone gave Havre years ago: “Always reinvest 25 percent of your commissions back into the business.”
