Cannibalized

What is Century 21 Real Estate LLC doing now that they've moved out of national television advertising to increase the footprint of their cutting-edge online marketing strategies like social media?

Poking fun at old Century 21 TV ads by highlighting them on the company Facebook page. This hooter starring Vincent Price aired in 1988. Babies born at the time are reaching the legal drinking age this year.

Century 21's Facebook page also directs you to this 1986 ad that shows the pronounced and lingering impact the 1970s had on hairstyles and telephones.

Then there's this 1983 Canadian spot, in which our gold-jacketed hero, working on behalf of a hopeful but cash-strapped young couple, walks the printout of their mortgage amortization table (spit out by a state-of-the-art workstation with a 9-inch screen) over to financing and demands, "We've got to lower those monthly payments." And he does! With hybrid ARMs yet to be invented!

The only way for traditional businesses to expand and attract new business, especially in the current market, is to stay on top of marketing developments. Identifying where your clint base resides and HOW they like to be communicated with, is crucial with changing technology. This is a very proactive move by a a very traditional company.

Real estate has changed in accordance with the technology availabe. Couriers and fax machines have been replaced by email and PDAs. Phone calls by Tweets.

Capitalizing on the trends and changes in consumer exposure is the lifeblood for any successful business in the future.

I was a kid when that came out. I don't remember it, but I can see the appeal it must have had at the time...Now, the sickening "gold" jackets that look like someone threw up on them I NEVER understood - even back then.

I ran across an article about NAR Membership as it relates to perception. Is everyone just here to suck out dollars from this industry and return no value.

I kind of wonder if the moving online thing is a smokescreen. I think they mostly just dont want to spend money on tv advertising. But so they can justify their fees to agents they say they are going to be proactive and go online. But a myspace page is much cheaper than a tv ad.

These old commercials are great. You can't help but watch. It's like looking through your high school year book or an old photo album. It feels good remembering a simpler time. I think retro marketing could be a winner. Brought to you by

TV ads do not sell homes, 87% of buyers are starting their search online. you should spend your marketings $ online. your ROI is much better.
