Brick and mortar, click and mortar, and more ...
By Inman News, Thursday, February 19, 2009.Bookmarking Sites
Inman News has launched an online survey, "Beyond Brick and Mortar," that seeks your input on the changing real estate brokerage office.
Share your insight on ways in which brokers are finding greater efficiencies in operations and agents are finding greater mobility through technological innovations.
We are offering a $200 Amazon.com gift card as a prize to a survey participant, selected at random.
Our congratulations to Mauricio DeFrancisco, an agent with Fortune International Realty in Weston, Fla., who will receive a $200 gift card for his participation in a previous survey focused on real estate commissions.
During the month of March, Inman News will be publishing stories focused on rethinking the traditional brick-and-mortar brokerage office and technologies enabling virtual brokerage operations.
We are offering a free pass to the upcoming Real Estate Connect conference in San Francisco (Aug. 5-7) to the author of each essay that we publish in full (essays should be 500-1,000 words and should not promote a particular company) that is focused on the reshaping of the traditional brokerage office and the role that the office plays in agents' daily work. The more that agents focus on how to reduce their costs and share those with their brokers and vice versa the better cost savings and efficiencies will be seen.
Everyone doing their part to eliminate faxes and go as digital as possible will be extremely valuable and efficient. It has been said for years the "paperless" office and while we may never be "paperless" we can most certainly reduce and this will save money and increase efficiency.

3G Phones themselves are going to be a big part of the evolution of the real estate industry. Being able to "quickly" look up things on the internet from location using your phone can greatly reduce time spent in printing info, call backs for information not there on location ,etc.
I have the G1 from from Tmobile and the ablity of that to integrate with my google calendar etc also enhances my ability to stay organized and on top of things.

More and more agents are working from home. Brokers should provide training for agents to be productive from a home office.

Although the brick and mortar business model certainly won’t be fading into obscurity, virtual store fronts have opened a new world of opportunities for would-be businessmen and women with big ideas but little capital.
